Hello! I'm Bruna

I am a first-year law student at the University of Miami School of Law. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I moved to America in 2012, at twelve-years-old. I am very excited to start my career as a lawyer. My interests include Tech Law, IP, Data Privacy, Trademark,  Entertainment, and Social Media. As an immigrant and Latina woman, I strive to narrow the inequality gap in the legal field.

EXPERIENCE

2019-2021

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Senior Class Council Secretary

Oglesby Union Board

Representing the student body allowed my passion for leadership to grow. I furthered my development as a leader, learned how to advocate for others and work in a team environment. My favorite part about serving the Senior Class at Florida State University as their elected Senior Class Secretary was organizing and advocating for a safe in-person graduation ceremony. I understood that I personally represented the thousands of first-generation immigrants and college students at Florida State. A graduation ceremony represented more than just a walk on stage for the ones I advocated for and me. It represented the American Dream and the result of breaking generational barriers. Being able to organize and provide this experience to my peers safely has been one of my best accomplishments while serving this position.

2020-2020

Legal Intern

FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Working as a legal intern at the Florida House of Representatives enabled me to work on my analytical skills and professional development. Policy research taught me about controversial issues and introduced me to the process behind law formation. By serving as a contact for constituents, I grew closer to my community and truly understood the importance of proximity.

2020-2021

Recruitment Director

DELTA GAMMA PHI WOMEN IN PRE-LAW SORORITY

My favorite part about helping create the first Pre-Law Sorority at Florida State University and recruiting new members was turning an abstract project into reality. After seeing a lack of accessibility and resources for young women interested in the law, we decided to take action into our own hands and build a community on campus. Our goal was to provide better resources and build a network for aspiring female lawyers. This goal was reached when our executive board collaborated with a preparatory LSAT company that offered affordable courses to our indigent members.

DIVERSITY

I'm a first-generation college student and immigrant from Brazil. Growing up as an immigrant in a low-income family in America enabled me to have a unique perspective on life. Facing hardships, discrimination, and inequality forced me to learn about the power of grit and determination. Although these obstacles brought me a lot of pain and setbacks, they also gave me purpose in life and shaped me into the woman I am today. I am not discouraged by arduous tasks or afraid to work harder than most people. As a Latina woman, I strive to bring representation into the legal field and change the status quo.

SOCIAL MEDIA

When I found my passion for law and decided to go to law school I searched for immigrant women like myself for inspiration and representation in the legal field. Unfortunately, I was unable to find someone like me to look up to. I understood this was an issue and became aware of this lack of representation. In August 2021 I started to create TikTok videos about my law school journey, with a goal to inspire, motivate, and help others. By being my authentic self, I grew a platform which soon became a source of income. Today, I have around 435,000 people following my journey. Social Media is now a vital part of my life. It has enabled me to help, inform and entertain others. It feels great to know that I can give to many the representation I lacked and craved for years.

JUST FOR FUN

Outside of work and school, I love listening to music, watching makeup tutorials, and keeping up with new fashion trends. Every morning I like to take the time to do my makeup and pick a nice outfit. For some, this might look like work, but for me, it is therapeutic. A phrase I like to say is, "when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you do good." I also love learning about different cultures. One of the reasons I decided to attend the University of Miami was their outstanding efforts towards embracing a diverse student body. My friends come from various backgrounds. Learning about their culture and beliefs has helped me see the world differently.
